Pewter Factory

Royal Selangor, here in Malaysia, is the biggest pewter factory in the world.  We went to visit it yesterday.  Sounds very boring, but it was really fun!  We saw the process of making pewter pieces.  All the pieces are completely handmade.  They are beautiful!  The kids took a half hour workshop.  They made a pewter bowl using old school methods and tools, how a bowl would have been made 100 years ago.

This pewter mug made the Guinness Book of World Records.

Our guide, Iris, took us on a tour of the factory.

We tried a drink in the little pewter cups to show us how pewter keeps things really cold.

The School of Hard Knocks
Once the kids got started, I could immediately tell how the school got the name.  :)
Hammering so loud!!!  We had a blast.
There's a video clip below.

Here's a funny: Patrick kept asking when we were going to make the "puter".
Until he was handed a hammer, he thought we were making computers!  Cute kid.

Once they were done, they wrapped their bowl in tissue paper and put it in a cute little box.

The finished bowl!
